World Polio Day is celebrated each October 24. Rotarians, along with public health advocates, come together to recognize the continued efforts to free the world of Polio, recognize the progress being made, and talk about the actions needed to end polio for good.

Rotary and its partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative have made great strides to reduce polio cases by 99.9% worldwide over the past 35 years, and we’ve reduced the circulation of wild polio to Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Funds are still needed to eradicate polio by continuing to bring immunizations and surveillance efforts to underserved areas of the world. All donations are matched 2:1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Beckley Rotary Club will send all proceeds from the Putt-Putt for Polio event to Rotary International to support these endeavors.
